Alpirsbacher

This is a brewery located in the town of Alpirsbach, in the Black Forest. It has a rather odd website so it’s hard to get information on the history of the brewery but it appears to have been founded in 1877, which is like yesterday for Germany breweries.

I’ve had 3 of their beers; all of them in bottle form and one on tap. I’ll talk about each of them in turn.

First the Alpirsbacher Pils. I had it on tap in 2015 at a restaurant in a town called Freudenstadt which, I didn’t know at the time, is just up the road from the brewery so that makes it kind of a local beer.

Very good head and refreshing; 4.9% alcohol so to my taste.

I later had the bottled version in 2022 and I wasn’t quite so impressed; perhaps my memory of the on tap version was a bit faulty or maybe, like is always the case, the draft version is invariably better.

In any event, I only rated it as 6.5/10. I haven’t come across it in draft form since that one time, so reserve the right to revise my score if I ever do.

The bottled version at home in France, 2022.

Then the Spezial Lager. A bit cloudy but still refreshing. 5.2% alcohol so a bit stronger than the Pils. Liked it better than the Pils which is normal for me.

7/10

The third in the set is the Zwickel Lager. In my opinion it’s the best of them. 5.4% alcohol which is the strongest of their beers, but still OK for my taste.

A little pale in colour, refreshing.

7.5/10
